## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON MARCH 6, 1995, AT 1995 CDT, A SAAB 340-B, N194AE, OPERATED BY FLAGSHIP AIRLINES, INC. AS FLIGHT 4617, WAS ON DESCENT TO GREATER PEORIA AIRPORT WHEN THE CAPTAIN NOTICED FLASHING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE FIRST OFFICER LOOKED OUT HIS WINDOW AND NOTICED THAT THE NUMBER TWO ENGINE HAD A FIRE IN THE INTAKE. HE CALLED FOR THE EMERGENCY CHECKLIST. THE CREW ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH THE #2 ENGINE FIRE BOTTLE. THIS DID NOT WORK DUE TO THE FIRE'S LOCATION. THEY PROCEEDED TO SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN, AND AT THAT TIME, THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED. THE AIRCRAFT CREW AND PASSENGERS LANDED AT PEORIA WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION BY A COMPANY MECHANIC THAT WAS DISPATCHED FROM MAINTENANCE CONTROL, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE LOWER DUCT HEAT MAT SHORTED OUT CAUSING THE INLET FIRE. THE DUCT IS HEATED BY WIRES INSIDE IT. ONCE THE ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE ENGINE WAS SHUT DOWN, THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED ITSELF.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
