## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON MARCH 26, 1995 AT APPROXIMATELY 1623 EST, MR. CLARENCE JAMES, JR., PIC OF N7757P, A PIPER PA-24-250, PREPARED FOR LANDING ON RWY 36 AT PWM. AFTER SELECTING "GEAR DOWN" POSITION, PIC DID NOT GET THE THREE GREEN LIGHTS INDICATING THAT THE LANDING GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED. HE THEN CONTACTED PWM TOWER AND ADVISED OF SITUATION. TOWER ADVISED PIC TO EXECUTE A FLYBY FOR VERIFICATION OF GEAR UP OR DOWN. IT WAS NOTED BY THE TOWER THAT THE GEAR WAS PARTIALLY DOWN. PIC THEN LOWERED THE GEAR MANUALLY AND CONDUCTED A SECOND FLYBY. TOWER CONFIRMED THAT THE GEAR APPEARED TO BE DOWN AND LOCKED. N7757P THEN LANDED RWY 36 WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER TAXIING TO THE GENERAL AVIATION TERMINAL, MR. JAMES WAS INFORMED BY AIRPORT PERSONNEL THAT THERE WERE NO MAINTENANCE FACILITIES OPEN ON SUNDAY. HE WAS THEN ADVISED TO LEAVE THE AIRCRAFT, WHERE IN MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL WOULD DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM ON MONDAY AM. MR. JAMES DECLINED AND STATED THAT HE WOULD FLY TO SANFORD, MAINE (SFM) FOR REPAIRS. HE THEN DEPARTED PWM AND CONTINUED THE FLIGHT TO SFM WITH THE GEAR DOWN. AT SFM, MAINTENANCE FOUND THE LANDING GEAR MOTOR WAS INOPERATIVE. THE CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS NOT "POPPED".

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
