## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: DURING CRUISE AT FL-230 ON AN IFR FLIGHT FROM PROVO, UTAH TO ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO THE RIGHT ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SHUDDERED. THE PILOT NOTIFIED ATC AND MANEUVERED TO STAY OUT OF CLOUDS DURING DESCENT. HE SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN, ATTEMPTED A RESTART, BUT THE ENGINE SHUDDERED BADLY. HE SHUT IT DOWN AGAIN, BUT THE PROPELLER WOULD NOT FEATHER. AFTER DETERMINING THAT HE COULD NOT MAINTAIN SUFFICIENT ALTITUDE TO CLEAR TERRAIN BETWEEN HIS POSITION AND THE NEAREST AIRPORT AT MONTICELLO, UTAH HE ELECTED TO LAND ON U.S. HIGHWAY 191. DURING LANDING ROLL, HIS LEFT WING TIP WAS SLIGHTLY DAMAGED WHEN IT CONTACTED THE TRAILER OF A LARGE TRUCK GOING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE AIRPLANE WAS TOWED TO MONTICELLO AIRPORT. INVESTIGATION REVEALED A POSSIBLE SEPARATION OF THE NUMBER ONE CYLINDER HEAD. DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE WAS LIMITED TO THE LEFT WING TIP. THE TRUCK TRAILER HAD A SCRATCH ALMOST THE LENGTH OF THE TRAILER. THIS REPORT IS FINAL AND CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
