## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: FLT. #749 DEPARTED DFW INTERNATIONAL AT APPROX. 0921(L). ABOUT 40 N.M. OUT OF DFW THE CREW GOT AN INDICATION (IN THE COCKPIT) OF AN ENGINE FIRE IN NO. 1 ENGINE. THE CAPTAIN DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RETURNED TO DFW, LANDED ON RUNWAY 31RT, EXITED THE RUNWAY ON TAXIWAY R-1. WHEN JUST OFF OF THE ACTIVE RUNWAY ON THIS TAXIWAY AN EMER. EVACUATION WAS DIRECTED BY THE CAPTAIN. REASON: BECAUSE A FIRE IN NO. 1 ENGINE WAS STILL BEING INDICATED IN THE COCKPIT; (AFTER DISCHARGING BOTH C02 BOTTLES TO THIS ENG.) & THE CREW WAS TOLD THERE WAS SOME SMOKE COMING FROM THIS ENGINE. THE EXITS USED IN THE EVACUATION WERE L-1 ALL 4 OVERWING EXITS, AND R-2. L-2 WAS NOT USED DUE TO PROXIMITY OF NO. 1 ENG. R-1 WAS NOT USED BECAUSE THE SLIDE ON THIS EXIT FAILED TO INFLATE / EXTEND FULLY. THE ESTIMATED TOTAL TIME INVOLVED IN THIS EVACUATION WAS APPROX. 2 MINUTES (AS REPORTED BY FIRE DEPT. PERSONNEL). THE MINOR INJURIES THAT OCCURRED DURING THIS EVACUATION WERE: TWO PASSENGERS TREATED AT SCENE FOR MINOR INJURY; ONE ANKLE AND ONE WRIST. BOTH PASSENGERS JOINED REST OF PASSENGERS ON BUS. NO ONE WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL. ONE FLIGHT ATTENDANT WAS TREATED FOR A SCRATCH/CUT ON THE BACK OF HER LEFT HAND. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
