NARRATIVE: AT APPROX. 1130L, NO PAX ON BOARD, A/C WAS BEING READIED FOR FLIGHT WHEN A FLIGHT ATTENDANT NOTED SMOKE COMING FROM THE CEILING OVER ROW 27 A/B SEATS. THE FIRE DEPT. THE METAL CEILING SKIN OVER THE AREA WAS SCORCHED AND SHOWED SIGNS OF BUCKLING. AN INVESTIGATION INDICATED THAT A FLUORESCENT LIGHT BALLAST, PART NUMBER 70-94, S/N 47204D HAD BURNT UP CAUSING THE FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS FERRIED UN-PRESSURIZED LGA TO TULSA FOR REPAIRS 4/3/95. THE AIRCRAFT FUSELAGE SKIN IN AREA OF DAMAGE AS NOTED ABOVE, IS BEING REPLACED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
