## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: MR. DORRIS HAD JUST FINISHED DROPPING OFF SOME CARGO AND PICKING UP SOME MAIL AT TWO OTHER BACK-COUNTRY AIRSTRIPS WHEN HE DECIDED TO DEMONSTRATE A LANDING AT THE DAVIS RANCH AIRSTRIP IN ORDER TO FAMILIARIZE THE NEW CHIEF PILOT OF MCCALL AIR TAXI, INC., WITH THE UNIQUE OPERATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS AIRSTRIP. HE INITIALLY CIRCLED THE AIRSTRIP TO DETERMINE THE WIND DIRECTION AND SPEED. THE WINDSOCK INDICATED A "NO WIND" LANDING. HE EXECUTED A NORMAL APPROACH BUT NOTICED HIS GROUNDSPEED TO BE HIGHER THAN NORMAL AS HE ROUNDED OUT IN THE FLARE. SINCE A "GO-AROUND" IS NOT POSSIBLE AT THIS AIRSTRIP, HE CONTINUED THE LANDING BUT WAS UNABLE TO STOP BEFORE HIS PROP STRUCK AN EMBANKMENT AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. AN INSPECTION OF THE WINDSOCK REVEALED AN INOPERATIVE BEARING ASSEMBLY. THE WIND WAS APPROXIMATELY 10 KNOTS DIRECTLY "UP" THE RUNWAY BUT WAS NOT INDICATED BY THE WINDSOCK. THE OPERATOR WILL REPLACE THE FAULTY WINDSOCK SINCE ACCURATE WIND INDICATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL TO SAFE OPERATIONS ON THIS AIRPORT. THIS IS A FINAL REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
