## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-16) DUE TO AN ALLEGED LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING ON RUNWAY 22 AT LURAY CAVERNS AIRPORT (W45), LURAY, VIRGINIA. THE APPROACH TO LANDING APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN HIGH CAUSING THE TOUCH DOWN TO BE WITHIN 250 FEET OF THE DEPARTURE END OF 3,125 FEET LONG, 75 FEET WIDE ASPHALT RUNWAY. THE TOUCH DOWN WAS ON BOTH MAIN GEAR AND TAIL WHEEL WITH NO EVIDENCE OF BRAKING BY THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB BFO95LA078](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/BFO95LA078), Aug 9, 1995: North American SNJ-5 (N830JD), Luray, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to attain the proper touchdown point on the runway during a precautionary landing. A factor was an undetermined lubricating system problem.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
