## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

HIGH SINK RATE ON FINAL. HIT TELPHONE WIRE WITH GEAR. VEERED OFF INTO CORN FIELD LANDING. INADEQUATE COMPENSATION. (-23) THE PILOT WAS ON FINAL APPROACH TO RUNWAY 18, WHEN HE STRUCK TELEPHONE WIRES WHICH ARE LOCATED 300 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD. THE WINDS WERE GUSTY. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ABOUT 320 FEET DOWN THE RUNWAY AND VEERED OFF THE EAST SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND ENDED UP IN A CORNFIELD. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT OR HIS PASSENGERS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI95LA324](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI95LA324), Sep 16, 1995: Cessna 177 (N3497T), Camp Lake, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate compensation for wind conditions, and failure to maintain altitude/clearance from the power line, while on short final approach. The downdraft was a related factor.

## Other reports on N3497T (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19820617051319I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19820617051319I), Jun 17, 1982: Cessna 177 (N3497T), Joliet, IL, Minor damage. Pilot practicing takeoffs, landings, approached with no flaps, touched down 8 feet short of runway.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
