## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FIRST FLIGHT WITH A PASSENGER. SWERVED ON TAKEOFF ROLL. OVER CORRECTED AND GROUND LOOPED. (-23) THE PILOT STATED: THAT HE HAD COMPLETED THE 40 HRS OF SOLO FLIGHT RESTRICTION ON THE MORNING OF SEP 28, 1995. THAT VERY AFTERNOON HE AND HIS WIFE WER TO FLY IN THE AIRCRAFT FOR THE FIRST TIME, SHE AS A PASSENGER. HE FURTHER STATED: THAT, WHILE APPLYING FULL POWER FOR TAKEOFF ON RUNWAY 28 AT YOUNGSTOWN ELSER METRO AIRPORT, THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO GO TO THE LEFT, AS IT STARTED DOWN THE RUNWAY. MR. DEANGELO FURTHER STATED THAT " I MUST HAVE JUST USED AILERON ONLY AND NO RUDDER TO CORRECT THE YAW. IT HAPPENED SO FAST I COULDN'T REDUCE THE POWER AND GROUNDLOOPED IT OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY." HE FURTHER STATED THAT, HIS WIFE MAY HAVE MADE CONTACT WITH THE RUDDER/BRAKE PEDALS. HOWEVER, HE DOES NOT RECALL FOR CERTAIN, IT ALL HAPPENED SO FAST. IT TOOK A MATTER OF SEVERAL SECONDS, AND A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 300-350 FEET FROM THE TIME OF FULL POWER APPLICATION. STATE OF OHIO - STATE HIGHWAY PATROL AIRCRAFT CRASH REPORT STATES: "THE LEFT MAIN BRAKE WAS LOCKED CAUSING THE TIRE TO SKID PRIOR TO YAWING BACK TO THE RIGHT SLIDING ACROSS THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT SLID AROUND AND STRUCK THE GROUND COLLAPSING THE LEFT MAIN GEAR. THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE GROUND AFTER THE GEAR COLLAPSED. THE PROPELLER TIPS WERE BROKEN UPON IMPACT WITH THE GROUND. THE PILOT NEVER REDUCED POWER DURING THE INCIDENT."

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB BFO95LA099](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/BFO95LA099), Sep 28, 1995: Deangelo Kitfox Speedster (N122DP), Youngstown, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the takeoff roll. A related factor was the pilot's lack of familiarity with the aircraft while carrying a passenger.
