## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: TWA FLIGHT #842, A BOEING 767-300 ETOPS AIRCRAFT, ENROUTE TO MILAN, ITALY FROM NEW YORK'S JFK AIRPORT, DECLARED AN EMERGENCY 50NM EAST OF BANGOR, MAINE, WITH THE RIGHT ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE AIRCRAFT, TWO #16102, LANDED ON RUNWAY 15 AT BANGOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BGR) AT 2128 HRS, WITH NO INJURIES. CAPTAIN LANGLEY USED MINIMAL REVERSE THRUST ON THE WORKING LEFT ENGINE AND HEAVY BRAKING DURING THE OVERWEIGHT LANDING. THIS CAUSED SEVERAL BRAKES TO OVERHEAT AND WHILE PARKED AT THE TERMINAL, FOUR (4) MAIN TIRE FUSE PLUGS RELEASED. TWA SENT ANOTHER AIRCRAFT TO HANDLE THE FLIGHT. THE ORIGINAL TWA CREW AND THEIR PASSENGERS CONTINUED TO MILAN WITH THE AIRCRAFT. THE CREW WRITE-UP IN THE AIRCRAFT LOGBOOK WAS, FIRST, RIGHT EEC C-1 WARNING, SECOND, RIGHT ENGINE CONTROL WARNING AND FINALLY, CREW WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL RIGHT ENGINE SURGING SO THEY SECURED THE ENGINE. TWA MAINTENANCE CHANGED FOUR TIRES, ELECTRONIC FUEL CONTROL COMPUTER, AND THE FUEL CONTROL BEFORE FERRYING AIRCRAFT TO ITS MAINTENANCE BASE. MAINTENANCE FOLLOW-UP ON THIS ETOPS AIRCRAFT WILL BE HANDLED BY TWO CMU IN KANSAS CITY FSDO. THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
