## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE PILOT WAS IN THE FINAL STAGE OF CONSTRUCTION OF HIS STOLP STARLIT, A SMALL SINGLE PLACE TAILDRAGGER AIRCRAFT. HE PLANNED A TAXI TEST AFTER INSTALLING THE WINDSCREEN AND PERFORMING MAINTENANCE ON THE CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE (CHT) GAUGE. THE PILOT INDENTED A HIGH SPEED TAXI TEST WITH THE TAIL UP. DURING THE TEST HE WAS DISTRACTED BY WATCHING THE CHT GAUGE AND INADVERTENTLY GOT ABOUT TWENTY FEET AIRBORNE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT TOWARDS THE HANGARS AND THE PILOT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DURING THE LANDING CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO RUN OFF THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT HAD NEVER FLOWN BEFORE. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITT^

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
