## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON 11-04-95, ON A VFR FLIGHT FROM DECATUR, IL TO SPRINGFIELD, IL THE NOSE GEAR FAILED TO EXTEND DURING THE APPROACH TO CAPITAL AIRPORT, SPRINGFIELD, IL. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO LOWER THE NOSE GEAR, THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND AT JACKSONVILLE, IL GEAR UP. A GEAR-UP LANDING WAS ACCOMPLISHED. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED, AND THERE WERE NO PASSENGERS. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED. THE NOSE GEAR DOORS MECHANISM IS PART OF STC SA3512SW. IF THE NOSE GEAR STRUT DOES NOT EXTEND PRIOR TO GEAR RETRACTION, THE STRUT DOES NOT PROPERLY ENGAGE THE DOOR CLOSING MECHANISM AND JAMS THE DOORS IN THE CLOSED POSITION. NORMAL CYCLING OF THE GEAR WILL NOT ALLOW THE NOSE GEAR TO EXTEND, DUE TO AIR PRESSURE ON THE DOORS. A SERVICE BULLETIN BY THE STC HOLDER CORRECTS THIS PROBLEM AND IS BEING INSTALLED ON THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
