## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

HEAVY ICE STALLED SPIRALED RECOVERED. HARD LANDING. VEERED OFF RUNWAY. ICING AMOUNT COULD CAUSE HIGHER STALL SPEED. (-23) FOLLOWING LOSS OF CONTROL WHILE IFR FROM PONTIAC, MI TO TORONTO, CANADA, THE PILOT LANDED HARD AT ROMEO, MI CAUSING THE LANDING GEAR TO COLLAPSE, RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE WINGS AND FUSELAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI96LA028](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI96LA028), Nov 12, 1995: Cessna 421 (N1588G), Romeo, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: the failure of the pilot to maintain sufficient airspeed during landing, causing the inadvertent stall. A factor was the icing conditions.

## Other reports on N1588G (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19781112035119A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19781112035119A), Nov 12, 1978: Cessna 421 (N1588G), Wichita Falls, TX, Substantial damage

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
