## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE PIC REPORTED THAT THE FLIGHT HAD BEEN IN LIGHT PRECIPITATION AT FL170 FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/16 INCH OF RIME ICE ON THE LEADING EDGES OF THE WINGS. BOTH ENGINE AND PROPELLER ANTI-ICE SYSTEMS HAD BEEN ACTIVATED FROM THE TIME THE AIRCRAFT HAD ENTERED ICING CONDITIONS. SEVERAL MINUTES INTO THE DESCENT INTO DFW AND ONLY ONE OR TWO MINUTES AFTER EXITING THE CLOUD LAYER, THE LEFT ENGINE SHUT ITSELF DOWN. THE TORQUE WAS ZERO, ITT WAS 300-400 DEGREES, AND NP WAS 20%. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE RIGHT ENGINE BEGAN TO SURGE AND A "POPPING" NOISE WAS HEARD. THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT REPORTED TO THE PIC THAT FLAMES WERE COMING OUT OF THE RIGHT ENGINE'S TAILPIPE. THE TORQUE WAS FLUCTUATING 5-8% AND A CONTINUOUS POPPING NOISE COULD BE HEARD. THE PIC DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND LANDED AT CRS WITH THE RIGHT ENGINE OPERATING AND THE LEFT ENGINE STILL SHUTDOWN. MAINTENANCE INVESTIGATION CONFIRMED THAT THE LEFT ENGINE DIGITAL ENGINE CONTROL UNIT HAD FAILED. THE UNIT WAS REPLACED AND THE ENGINE OPERATED NORMALLY. THIS INCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE FTW NTSB OFFICE.
