## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED BY MR. ANDREW BURR, OF ANGLO-AMERICAN AVIATION. MR. ROGER KIMPTON, THE STUDENT PILOT INVOLVED, RETURNED TO ENGLAND SHORTLY AFTER THIS INCIDENT AND DID NOT INDICATE ANY PLANS TO RETURN TO THE U.S. WE WERE UNABLE TO OBTAIN A STATEMENT, OR ANY OTHER INFORMATION, FROM MR. KIMPTON. MR BURR INITIALLY REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO SAN DIEGO FSDO ON NOV. 20. IN A SUBSEQUENT TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH INSPECTOR PARK, ON DEC. 8, MR. BURR PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION: MR ROGER KIMPTON WAS TAKING FLIGHT INSTRUCTION FROM MR. TIMOTHY WALKER, A FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AT ANGLO-AMERICAN. HE WAS ON A SOLO CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT, FROM GILLESPIE FIELD, (SEE), TO HEMET-RYAN AIRPORT (HMT) IN N33810, A PIPER PA-28-150. MR. KIMPTON TOLD MR. BURR, AND MR. WALKER, THAT HE MADE A VERY HARD LANDING AT HMT. HE EXECUTED A GO-AROUND, AND RETURNED TO SEE WITHOUT ATTEMPTING A SECOND LANDING AT HMT. HE CLAIMED THAT HE DID NOT REALIZE THE PLANE HAD BEEN DAMAGED, IN THE LANDING AT HMT, UNTIL HE PARKED THE PLANE AT SEE. MR. KIMPTON SAID THE AIRPLANE FLEW NORMALLY, WITH NO INDICATION OF ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS, FROM HMT TO SEE. INSPECTION OF THE PLANE AT SEE REVEALED THE FOLLOWING DAMAGE: PROPELLER TIPS BENT ON BOTH ENDS, NOSE GEAR BENT BACK APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 4 INCHES, AND THE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BENT. INSPECTOR JOHN WHITE (ASI/AW), SAN FSDO, INSPECTED THE PLANE AT SEE, AND VERIFIED THE DAMAGE WAS AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. HE SAID THE DAMAGE WAS WITHIN THE CRITERIA FOR CLASSIFYING THIS AS AN INCIDENT, AND NOT AS AN ACCIDENT. HE ALSO INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE AND AIRFRAME LOGBOOKS, AND DETERMINED THAT THE AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN MAINTAINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE FARS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
