## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: PILOT CANCELED IFR FLIGHT AND REQUESTED VECTOR TO BREWTON, AL AIRPORT BECAUSE HE WAS LOW ON FUEL, AIRCRAFT RAN OUT OF FUEL APPROXIMATELY FOUR (4) MILES SOUTH OF THE AIRPORT. PILOT LANDED IN A COTTON FIELD AND LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED WITH MINOR DAMAGE AND NO INJURIES. INSPECTION OF AIRCRAFT DID NOT REVEAL ANY SIGNS OF FUEL LEAKS. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF FUEL COMPUTATIONS THIS AIRCRAFT FLEW 4.2 HOURS WHEN IT RAN OUT OF FUEL, WITH FULL FUEL OF 48 GALLONS USEABLE IT SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST 4.8 HOURS. THIS GIVES A 30 MINUTE RESERVE AS REQUIRED BY THE FAR'S FOR VFR FLIGHT, I FEEL THAT NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED AT THIS TIME.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
