## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: TRANS WORLD AIRLINES, FLIGHT 199, A BOEING 727-231, INBOUND STL-SAT, EXPERIENCED A DOOR INDICATION OF THE AFT AIR STAIR DOOR, WHICH IS NOT IN THE PRESSURE VESSEL. THE FLIGHT CREW DETERMINED THAT THE DOOR HAD LOOSENED FROM ITS LATCHES AND HAD BEGUN OPENING. THE FLIGHT LANDED AT SAT WITHOUT INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE DETERMINED THE D.B. COOPER LATCH WAS WEDGED BETWEEN THE DOOR FRAME AND DOOR, NOT ALLOWING FULL CLOSURE. UPON INSPECTION, THE CREW TOOK PRECAUTIONARY ACTION AND USED A ROPE TO ENSURE THAT THE DOOR WAS SAFELY CLOSED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO FIRE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
