## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE OPERATOR REPORTED THAT WHEN THE NO. 2 ENGINE WAS STARTED WITH THE PROPELLER BRAKE ENGAGED, THE P.I.C. NOTED THE PROPELLER BRAKE UNLOCKED WARNING ON THE "PROP BRAKE" PANEL. A VISUAL CHECK REVEALED FIRE IN THE FORWARD ENGINE COWLING AREA. THE CREW DISCHARGED BOTH FIRE EXTINGUISHING BOTTLES, WHICH DID NOT FULLY EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE AIRPORT CFR UNIT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE 23 PASSENGERS AND 3 CREW MEMBERS DEPLANED USING THE AIRCRAFT STAIRS. THERE WAS NO EMERGENCY EVACUATION. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL INSPECTED THE ENGINE AND COWLING FOR EVIDENCE OF FIRE OR OVERHEAT DAMAGE, NONE WAS FOUND. THE PROPELLER BRAKE UNIT WAS REMOVED AND THE SYSTEM WAS DEFERRED PER M.E.L. PROCEDURES. AT THIS TIME, THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNKNOWN. THE OPERATOR HAS SUBMITTED THE PROPELLER BRAKE UNIT FOR TEAR-DOWN TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE. THIS REPORT IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
