## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: AFTER DEPARTURE AND IN LEVEL CRUISE FLIGHT, THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN ENGINE SEIZURE ON THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE ON A PART 91 FLIGHT. THE PROPELLER WAS FEATHERED, THE ENGINE SECURED AND AN UNEVENTFUL LANDING MADE. INVESTIGATION FOUND THE CRANKSHAFT BROKEN AT THE #3 MAIN BEARING SADDLE BETWEEN #4 ROD THROW AND #5 ROD THROW. MASSIVE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL DAMAGE TO CASES, CYLINDERS, CAMSHAFT, AND COMPONENTS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO BE DESTROYED. CRANK WAS GROUND .010 UNDERSIZE AT LAST OVERHAUL 1140 HOURS AGO BY RAM AIRCRAFT, WACO, TX. 107 HOURS SINCE TOP OVERHAUL BY DUNKIRK AVIATION, DUNKIRK, NY. COULD NOT DETERMINE CAUSE OF CRACK. M&D FILED. THIS MATTER IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
