## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON FEBRUARY 1, 1996, THE PILOT OF N198GM ATTEMPTED A TAKE-OFF IN A PA-32-300, IN INSTRUMENT CONDITIONS, HEAVY FOG, AND LIMITED VISIBILITY. THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS HEAVILY LOADED WITH SUPPLEMENTAL FUEL (APPROXIMATELY 150 GALLONS) STORED IN PORTABLE PLASTIC FUEL TANKS IN THE AFT PORTION OF THE AIRCRAFT SEATING CABIN. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AFTER AN ABORTED TAKEOFF AND CAME TO REST ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET OFF THE RUNWAY, FACING 90 DEGREES TO THE INTENDED FLIGHT PATH. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY DAMAGE, ALTHOUGH THE AIRCRAFT WAS HAMPERED FROM FURTHER MOVEMENT BY DENSE UNDERBRUSH. NO INJURIES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
