## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON 02/06/96 DELTA FLIGHT 1082 FROM SLC TO MSO WAS CLEARED TO ENTER HOLDING AT KONA NDB WHICH IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE MSO ILS APPROACH TO RUNWAY 11. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CLEARED TO DESCEND TO 9000 FEET. WHEN ENTERING HOLD THE GPWS GAVE A TERRAIN WARNING, AT WHICH TIME THE CREW MADE A CLIMB TO 12,000 FEET. IT APPEARS THE CREW DID NOT COMPENSATE FOR A STRONG CROSS WIND AT 9000' AND THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED OUT OF THE HOLDING PATTERN PROTECTED AIRSPACE. A CONTRIBUTING CAUSE WAS A LAST MINUTE HOLDING CLEARANCE GIVEN JUST AS THE AIRCRAFT REACHED THE MSO VOR. THIS DID NOT ALLOW THE CREW TIME TO PREPLAN THE HOLDING PATTERN ENTRY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
