NARRATIVE: DURING DESCENT INTO IAD, UNITED EXPRESS FLIGHT 6532 DECLARED AN IN-FLIGHT EMERGENCY DUE TO SMOKE SMELL IN THE CABIN. AIRCRAFT LANDED AT IAD WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT, NO REPORTED INJURIES TO PASSENGERS OR CREW. FLIGHT CREW REPORTED THAT THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SMOKE OR FIRE, ONLY AN ELECTRICAL SMELL COMING FROM ONE OF THE PASSENGERS GASPER VALVES. ONCE THE VALVE WAS CLOSED, THE SMELL DISSIPATED. MAINTENANCE PERFORMED AN INSPECTION, AND RAN ENGINES, BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AIRCRAFT WAS RELEASED AND APPROVED FOR RETURN TO SERVICE.

Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
