## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-16) DURING A LOCAL FLIGHT, THE PILOT WAS CONDUCTING SEVERAL TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS. ON THE FINAL LANDING, AS THE BASKET MADE GROUND CONTACT, THE PILOT HAD HER ANKLE TWISTED. THE FORWARD MOMENTUM OF THE BASKET, AFTER GROUND CONTACT, CAUSED THE PILOT TO PUT SIDEWARD PRESSURE ON THE ANKLE, CAUSING A BONE FRACTURE. THE OFFICE INVESTIGATION OF THIS MISHAP REVEALED NO COMPETENCY ISSUE ON THE BEHALF OF THE PILOT NOR WAS THE PILOT ACTING CONTRARY TO ANY FAR. THIS TYPE OF INJURY DURING BALLOON LANDINGS IS NOT UNCOMMON. THIS INJURY IS MORE RELATED TO THE FOOT POSITION OF THE OCCUPANT DURING THE LANDING SEQUENCE THAN IT IS TO ANY ADVERSE ACTION OF THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI96LA102](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI96LA102), Feb 25, 1996: Balloon Works Firefly 7-15 (N2598H), Brighton, IA, no damage. Probable cause: The pilot's bone condition, which resulted in a fractured ankle during a normal touchdown.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
