## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON MARCH 1, 1996, AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30 AM (MST), A MOONEY M20J, N5258G, OPERATED BY MR. DAVID HOUSER, A PRIVATE, CERTIFICATED PILOT, DEPARTED WENDOVER, UTAH ENROUTE TO SALT LAKE CITY. FIVE MINUTES AFTER TAKEOFF, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE, AND OIL STREAKED PAST THE WINDSCREEN. THE PILOT INITIATED AN EMERGENCY LANDING AT THE WENDOVER, AIRPORT. THE LANDING WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO PASSENGERS ON BOARD AND THE PILOT WAS UNINJURED. THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE INCURRED A HOLE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CRANKCASE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
