## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE PILOT WAS DEPARTING LEWISBURG, WV (LWB) VFR FOR CLARKSBURG, WV (CKB) WHEN DURING THE TAKE-OFF ROLL THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SURGE AND WOULD NOT PRODUCE FULL POWER. THE PILOT ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE TAKEOFF WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED. THE PILOT PUT THE AIRCRAFT INTO A FIELD ABOUT 1/4 MILE FROM THE END OF RUNWAY 22. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING AND HORIZONTAL STABILIZER. ALSO, THE LEFT MAIN AND NOSE GEAR WERE TORN LOOSE. POST INCIDENT INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT THE OIL COOLER BROKE OPEN DURING INITIAL ENGINE START AND THE ENGINE OIL WAS LOST. THIS LOSS OF OIL CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. SUBMISSION OF THIS REPORT CLOSES THIS CASE

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
