## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: FOLLOWING A NORMAL APPROACH AND TOUCHDOWN UNDER VMC CONDITIONS, THIS ATP PILOT AND TWO PASSENGERS EXPERIENCED A SEVERE TAIL WHEEL SHIMMY ON ROLLOUT. THIS SHIMMY CAUSED THE TAIL WHEEL STEERING CABLE TO DETACH ITSELF FROM THE TAIL WHEEL STEERING HORN CAUSING A LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. THE AIRCRAFT WEATHER VAINED INTO THE CROSSWIND, AND CORRECTIVE BRAKE AND RUDDER APPLIED. DURING THE CORRECTION, THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR AXLE BROKE CAUSING THE RIGHT MAIN WHEEL ASSY TO DEPART THE ACFT. THE ACFT. SLID AND SKIDDED TO A STOP ON THE RUNWAY WITHOUT ANY INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANTS AND ONLY MINOR DAMAGE TO THE ACFT. (THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED.)

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
