## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON MARCH 17, 1996 AT 1430 HOURS, MOUNTAIN DAYLIGHT TIME, A MITSUBISHI MU-2B, N143JA, REGISTERED AND PILOTED BY MR. PERRY J. ARMSTRONG, LANDED AT ASPEN AIRPORT AND DAMAGED THE NOSE GEAR. AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTED TO LAND INITIALLY BUT HAD TOO HIGH OF ATTITUDE. EXECUTED AN APPROVED 360 TURN FOR VOR APPROACH UPON APPROVAL BY ASPEN TOWER. THE APPROACH SEEMED NORMAL UNTIL AT A POINT ABOUT TEN FEET OVER THE RUNWAY. AT THAT POINT THE PILOT ENCOUNTERED A WIND GUST WHOSE VELOCITY EXCEEDED THE AMOUNT BY WHICH THEIR AIRSPEED EXCEEDED STALL SPEED. THE AIRCRAFT'S NOSE GEAR TIRE WAS DAMAGED DUE TO THE ATTITUDE OF THE AIRCRAFT. MINOR DAMAGE TO NOSE COWLING. AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY WITH NO INJURIES TO PILOT OR PASSENGERS. NO FURTHER ACTION REQUIRED ON THIS INCIDENT. INCIDENT CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
