## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4)THE PILOT REPORTED THAT AS THE AIRPLANE WAS TAKING OFF, A DEER HIT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE EMPENNAGE, CAUSING A VIOLENT YAW TO THE LEFT, BUT THE AIRPLANE CONTINUED TO FLY. PASSENGERS IN THE REAR SEAT USED A FLASHLIGHT TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE. THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE LEFT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER, ELEVATOR AND EMPENNAGE WERE DAMAGED. THE PILOT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT TAIL FLUTTER AND POSSIBLE STALLING OF THE AIRPLANE. HE DETERMINED THAT HE WOULD MAINTAIN 100 KNOTS AND CONTINUE IN THE SAME DIRECTION TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT, WHERE HE COULD MAKE A STRAIGHT-IN LANDING, AND EMERGENCY SERVICES WERE AVAILABLE. AN UNEVENTFUL LANDING WAS MADE. (-23) LEFT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER WAS HIT BY A DEER AS N2586S WAS AT THE ENDOF THE RUNWAY DURING CLIMB OUT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS YAWING TO THE LEFT BUT WAS STABLE ENOUGH TO CONTINUE THE FLIGHT TO PONTIAC, MICHIGAN AIRPORT FROM MARSHALL, MICHIGAN. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY AT PONTIAC. THERE WERE FOUR (4) PEOPLE ON BOARD. THERE WAS NO FIRE AND NO INJURIES. THERE WAS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE EMPENNAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI96LA124](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI96LA124), Apr 3, 1996: Cessna 210 (N2586S), Marshall, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: A deer that wandered onto the runway. Darkness was a related factor.

## Other reports on N2586S (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
