## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

LANDING FOR FUEL HIT BY WIND GUST. BEGAN GO AROUND. HIT POWER LINE PARALELLING RUNWAY. WIRES 800FT FROM RUNWAY. (-23) PILOT FAVORHOLDT STATED THAT HE WAS ENROUTE TO EL PASO, TX, FROM CARLSBAD, NM, WHEN HE DECIDED TO LAND AT DELL CITY, TX. WHILE APPROACHING TO LAND ON RUNWAY 26, GUSTING WINDS FROM THE NORTHWEST LIFTED THE RIGHT WING TO THE POINT HE WAS FORCED TO EXECUTE A GO-AROUND, DRIFTING TO THE SOUTH OF THE RUNWAY. HE STATED THAT HE COULD NOT COMPENSATE FOR ALL OF THE DRIFT BEFORE HE COLLIDED WITH A 30-FT. HIGH POWERLINE THAT RUNS PARALLEL TO THE RUNWAY AND IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 300 FT SOUTH OF THE RUNWAY. WITNESSES AT THE SCENE ESTIMATED THE WINDS WERE GUSTING TO 50 MPH. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO BOTH WINGS AND THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR. PILOT FAVORHOLDT, WHO WAS ALONE IN THE AIRCRAFT, WAS NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW96LA170](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW96LA170), Apr 14, 1996: Explorer Post 51 AA Cubette (N7891), Dell City, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain obstacle clearance during a go-around. Factors were the gusty wind and the pilot's inadequate compensation for the wind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
