## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON APRIL 16, 1996, MR. BILL R. COX HOLDER OF PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE NO. 1280791, WAS PILOT-IN-COMMAND OF EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR-BUILT MOONEY MITE M-18, N18CX, AT GOODYEAR MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, GOODYEAR, ARIZONA, AND EXPERIENCED AN AIRCRAFT INCIDENT RESULTING IN VERY MINOR AIRCRAFT DAMAGE. WHILE PERFORMING A LOCAL PROFICIENCY FLIGHT TO INCLUDE PATTERN AND TOUCH-AND-GO WORK, THE LEFT MAIN GEAR HAD A PARTIAL FAILURE AT THE GEAR-TO-AIRFRAME ATTACH POINT. THE GEAR ASSEMBLY BENT INWARD AND ALLOWED THE LEFT WINGTIP TO CONTACT THE GROUND. DAMAGE TO THE WINGTIP WAS LIMITED TO PAINT REMOVAL ONLY. THE CAUSE OF THE GEAR FAILURE APPEARS TO BE THE RESULT OF AN UNEXPECTED CROSSWIND GUST AT THE MOMENT OF TOUCHDOWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. INCIDENT CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
