## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON 04/25/96 AT 1730 LCL, SPITFIRE AIRCRAFT, N356TE, LANDED AT MCAS EL TORO TO PARTICIPATE AS STATIC DISPLAY AIRCRAFT DURING EL TORO AIR SHOW 04/26/96 THROUGH 04/28/96. SHORTLY AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED, AIRCRAFT SKIDDED TO A STOP WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. POST INCIDENT INSPECTION REVEALED THE LANDING GEAR SELECT HANDLE IN THE DOWN POSITION BUT NOT IN THE LOCK DETENT. INTERVIEW WITH PILOT CONFIRMED GEAR HANDLE WAS NOT PLACED IN LOCK DETENT AND WAS CAUSE OF GEAR COLLAPSE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
