## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON MAY 2, 1996, CESSNA 414A ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TO HEAVY TURBULENCE WHILE EN-ROUTE FROM YANKTON, SD TO OMAHA, NE EPPLEY AIRFIELD. THE TURBULENCE INDUCED A MOMENTARY UNCOMMANDED GEAR EXTENSION AND SUBSEQUENT RETRACTION. THE PIC ELECTED TO PERFORM A PRECAUTIONARY GEAR EXTENSION TO VERIFY CORRECT OPERATION. THE LANDING GEAR APPEARED TO EXTEND NORMALLY WITH 3 SAFE LANDING GEAR INDICATIONS. HOWEVER, THE GEAR IN TRANSIT LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE GEAR WARNING HORN WOULD ACTUATE WITH FLAPS BEYOND THE APPROACH POSITION. FOLLOWING SEVERAL CYCLE ATTEMPTS & ATCT VISUAL CHECK, PIC ELECTED TO DISCHARGE EMERGENCY BLOWDOWN BOTTLE. NO CHANGES WERE NOTED. PIC DECLARED AN EMERGENCY & LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT ON EPPLEY AIRFIELD RUNWAY 14R. ON MAY 24, 1996, TROUBLESHOOTING EFFORTS INITIATED BY ELLIOTT AVIATION, INC., AT THE OMAHA, NE FACILITY DISCOVERED AN INTERMITTENT NOSE LANDING GEAR UPLOCK SWITCH PN:B23YT, WHICH CAUSED THE LANDING GEAR TO CYCLE IN THE RETRACT POSITION. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
