## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: PILOT ZONKA WAS FLYING ALONG WITH ANOTHER AIRCRAFT. HEADED FOR COI (MERRITT ISLAND AIRPORT). THE OTHER AIRCRAFT WAS LOW ON FUEL, SO HE ELECTED TO MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LAND IN AN OPEN FIELD. MR. ZONKA THEN ALSO LANDED TO CHECK ON THE OTHER AIRCRAFT AND TO GIVE HIM SOME FUEL (ZONKA HAD AN EXTRA CONTAINER OF FUEL WITH HIM) ON THE SUBSEQUENT ATTEMPTED TAKE OFF, MR. ZONKA'S AIRCRAFT WENT THROUGH A SWALE OR DITCH AND DAMAGED THE LANDING GEAR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
