## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE AIR TAXI FLIGHT DEPARTED LINCOLN, NE AT 0605 CDT ON MAY 8, 1996 EN ROUTE TO MANKATO, MN. THE PILOT STATED HE WAS ABOUT 40 MILES NORTHEAST OF LINCOLN IN CRUISE FLIGHT WHEN THE LEFT ENGINE QUIT. HE SAID HE HAD BEEN LEVEL AT 7,000 MSL FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. AFTER COMPLETING THE ENGINE FAILURE PROCEDURES, HE REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE RETURN TO LINCOLN. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE CONNECTING ROD BOLT ON NUMBER 5 CYLINDER BROKE RESULTING IN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF LEFT ENGINE. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
