## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON TAKEOFF FROM GRASS STRIP, TALL GRAS IMPEDED ACCELERATION, RAN OUT OF RUNWAY, LANDING GEAR WAS SHEARED. (-23) ON MAY 10, 1996, AT APPROXIMATELY 0835 CDT, A GRUMMAN, MODEL G-164-B AIRCRAFT, N6832K, OPERATED BY O'BRIEN FLYING SERVICE, INC., UNDER TITLE 14 CFR PART 137, FAILED TO REACH TAKEOFF SPEED (DUE TO TALL, WET GRASS) DURING AN ATTEMPTED TAKEOFF FROM AN AGRICULTURAL STRIP NEAR IOWA, LOUISIANA. THE GRASS WAS APPROXIMATELY 30 INCHES HIGH AND WAS WET WETH MEDIUM DEW. THE LEFT LANDING GEAR COLLIDED WITH A FENCE POLE, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO GO THROUGH THE FENCE, OVER A BERM, AND INTO A RICE FIELD. THE INSTRUMENT-RATED PILOT WAS NOT INJURED AND THE AIRPLANE RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED FOR THE LOCAL AERIAL APPLICATION FLIGHT AND A FLIGHT PLAN WAS NOT FILED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW96LA205](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW96LA205), May 10, 1996: Grumman G-164B (N6832K), Iowa, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's selection of an unsuitable area for takeoff. The high vegetation (tall grass) was a related factor.

## Other reports on N6832K (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 20050604010559A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20050604010559A), Jun 4, 2005: Scwzer G164B (N6832K), Iowa, LA, Destroyed. (-23) During cruise flight aircraft lost power and contacted power lines. Pilot made force landing and impacted rice field.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
