## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON LANDING, AIRCRAFT CRASHED INTO A FIELD ADJACENT TO THE RUNWAY. (-23) THE PILOT STATED AS HE ROLLED THE AIRCRAFT OUT ON FINAL, HE BEGAN USING RIGHT WING LOW WITH AILERON AND NOSE STRAIGHT WITH LEFT RUDDER TO NEUTRALIZE LEFT DRIFT. THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED TO THE NORTH, BUT HE CORRECTED IT BACK, WHEN SUDDENLY, A STRONG GUST BLEW THE PLANE NORTH OF THE RUNWAY. THE RIGHT WING DROPPED QUICKLY WHILE THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO DRIFT LEFT (NORTH) AS HE ADDED POWER TO EXECUTE ANOTHER GO-AROUND. THE PLANE CONTINUED TO DROP RIGHT WIND LOW. THE ENGINE ACCELERATED NORMALLY BUT THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO DROP AND STRUCK THE GROUND RIGHT WING LOW AND OFF TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW96LA218](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW96LA218), May 18, 1996: Maule MX-7-160 (N35TX), Belcher, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control in flight. A factor was the gusty wind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
