## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON MAY 18, 1996, AT 0944 CDT, A WHITMAN TAILWIND, MODEL W-8, AMATEUR BUILT AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A DISINTEGRATION OF ITS TAIL WHEEL DURING A LANDING ROLL AT NEW ORLEANS LAKEFRONT AIRPORT (NEW), NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THIS WAS AN ORIGINAL INSTALLATION IN 1965. THE SOLID RUBBER TIRE HAD DISBONDED FROM THE HUB. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE WHEN IT VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY. THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED.

Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
