## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4) A WITNESS REPORTED SEEING THE AIRPLANE CIRCLING LOW OVERHEAD IN A 'CLOCKWISE TO RECTANGULAR' PATTERN. THE WITNESS OBSERVED THE AIRPLANE TURNING SOUTHERLY AND DESCENDING, WHEN IT PITCHED UP 45 DEGREES, AND APPEARED TO HAVE STALLED. THE AIRPLANE THEN WENT INTO A 45 DEGREE DIVE. THE WITNESS SAID THE AIRPLANE SOUNDED NORMAL. THE LOCAL POLICE SEARCHED THE HANGER FOR SIGNS OF A SUICIDE NOTE, BECAUSE THE PILOT'S WIFE SAID HE RECENTLY HAD BEEN ACTING DESPONDED. NO SUCH NOTE WAS FOUND. NO MECHANICAL FAILURE/MALFUNCTION OF THE AIRFRAME, POWERPLANT, OR FLIGHT CONTROLS WERE DISCOVERED DURING THE INVESTIGATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI96FA169](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI96FA169), May 23, 1996: Beech F33A (N8273G), Saint Clair, MO, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: failure of the pilot to maintain adequate airspeed, while maneuvering at low altitude, which resulted in a stall and collision with the terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
