## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOTS WERE NOT TRAINED OR CERTIFIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL AVIATION REGULATIONS. BOTH CREWMEMBERS HAD RECEIVED SIMULATOR PROFICIENCY CHECKS WITHIN THE PRECEDING 3 MONTHS. BOTH HAD ACCOMPLISHED IN EXCESS OF 40 LANDINGS IN THE MD-11 WITHIN THE PRECEDING 90 DAYS. THE MD-11 HAS UNIQUE LANDING CHARACTERISTICS THAT ARE CERTAINLY A TRAINING ISSUE. MCDONNELL DOUGLAS IS HOSTING A MD-11 TAILSTRIKE AVOIDANCE SEMINAR ON AUGUST 21 & 22, 1996. THIS WILL AID U.S. AND FOREIGN OPERATORS IN ADJUSTING THEIR TRAINING PROGRAMS TO MINIMIZE THIS TYPE OF ACCIDENT.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
