## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: DURING CLIMBOUT FROM MCI CAPTAIN OBSERVED A BIRD, OF SOME SORT, PASSING UNDER THE AIRCRAFT THEN HEARD/FELT A THUMP. FLIGHT RETURNED TO MCI, ENGINE WAS NOT SHUT DOWN. INSPECTION BY CONTRACT MAINTENANCE, AFTER LANDING, INDICATED A BIRD STRIKE IN NUMBER 2 ENGINE. BIRD STRUCK INLET RING AT APPROXIMATELY THE 2 O'CLOCK POSITION. MOST OF THE BIRD APPEARS TO HAVE STAYED OUT OF THE ENGINE. 4 FAN BLADES HAVE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE BIRD INGESTION. CONTRACT MAINTENANCE WORKING WITH USAIR MAINTENANCE CONTROL FOR REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS. THIS MATTER IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
