## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON JUNE 1, 1996, AT APPROXIMATELY 1105 MDT, A MOONEY MO-20G, N3665N, LANDED GEAR UP ON RUNWAY 21 AT THE ALAMOGORDO - WHITE SANDS REGIONAL AIRPORT IN ALAMOGORDO, NM. THE PURPOSE OF THE FLIGHT WAS A FAMILIARIZATION FLIGHT OF A PRIVATE PILOT IN SINGLE ENGINE AIRCRAFT (ATP IN MULTIENGINE AIRCRAFT) WHO HAD NO EXPERIENCE IN MOONEY AIRCRAFT. THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT STATED HE WAS DISTRACTED BY TRAFFIC IN THE PATTERN AND FAILED TO NOTICE THE LANDING GEAR HANDLE WAS PLACED IN THE DOWN POSITION WHILE ACCOMPLISHING THE BEFORE LANDING CHECK LIST. THE LANDING GEAR HANDLE FOR THIS AIRCRAFT IS PLACED IN THE UP POSITION TO EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR, AND IT IS IN THE DOWN POSITION FOR RETRACTING THE LANDING GEAR. HAVING FOLLOWED THE LANDING CHECK LIST THE LANDING GEAR WARNING HORN WAS MISTAKENLY IDENTIFIED AS THE STALL WARNING HORN FOR WHICH NO CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS EMPLOYED DURING TOUCHDOWN. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. NEITHER OCCUPANT WAS INJURED. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
