## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON JUNE 2, 1996, AT APPROXIMATELY 0305 ZULU, AIRCRAFT N859DF, A DV30, LANDED SHORT OF IT'S INTENDED DESTINATION DUE TO FUEL STARVATION. THE FUEL SHORTAGE OCCURRED ON THE FOURTH LEG OF A FLIGHT WHICH ORIGINATED AT PALWAKEE AIRPORT IN CHICAGO WITH THE EVENTUAL DESTINATION OF HOLBROOK, ARIZONA. ON THIS LEG, THE PILOT REPORTED HAVING TOPPED OFF WITH FUEL AT GUYMON, OKLAHOMA. HE REPORTED FUEL STARVATION APPROXIMATELY 4 HOURS INTO THE FLIGHT. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE SHOULD HAVE HAD ABOUT 5 HOURS OF FLIGHT TIME, AND THAT HE FELT THE ENGINE WAS BURNING FUEL AT A HIGHER RATE THAN THAT SHOWN IN THE AIRCRAFT FLIGHT MANUAL. THE PILOT STATED THAT WITH THIS TYPE OF ENGINE (A ROTAX) THE FUEL FLOW SETUP IS TOTALLY AUTOMATIC, WITHOUT THE PILOT BEING ABLE TO LEAN THE ENGINE, AS IS NORMAL. THE PILOT DECLARED HIS SITUATION TO ALBUQUERQUE CENTER, AND PROCEEDED TOWARD THE GALLUP AIRPORT. APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES/12N.M. SOUTH OF GALLUP, THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED FUEL STARVATION AND THE PILOT MADE AN OFF AIRPORT LANDING. NEITHER THE PILOT NOR PASSENGER WERE INJURED. THE AIRCRAFT INCURRED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE TO THE PROP. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
