## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON SUNDAY JUNE 9, 1996 AT APPROXIMATELY 10:00 A.M. THE NUMBER 2 ENGINE FAILED ON AIRCRAFT N871RA AFTER DEPARTING THE RENO/TAHOE AIRPORT AND PASSING THROUGH FL180. THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO RENO AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT DOWN AFTER THE FAILURE WAS DISCOVERED BY THE CAPTAIN. INITIAL INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE BY THE OPERATOR REVEALED THAT THE TURBINE SECTION WAS THE ORIGIN OF THE FAILURE. T2 OR T3 TURBINE STATOR AREA. THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE LATER DETERMINED DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE INTERNAL DAMAGE. NO PILOT DEVIATION. THIS REPORT IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
