## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: ON JUNE 10, 1996, AT APPROXIMATELY 1000 EDT, A MINIMAX ULTRALIGHT VEHICLE, PILOTED BY A PRIVATE PILOT IVAN LEE HARNECK CRASHED NEAR THE US 31 BYPASS, 7 MILES NORTH OF THE INDIANA/MICHIGAN STATE LINE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING THE COLLISION WITH THE TERRAIN. MR. HARNECK WAS FATALLY INJURED IN THE CRASH. THE EXACT WEIGHT OF THE ULTRALIGHT AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH IS NOT KNOWN, HOWEVER, THE ULTRALIGHT VEHICLE RECORDS PROVIDED, WOULD LEAD ONE TO BELIEVE THAT THE AIRCRAFT'S WEIGHT WAS SLIGHTLY IN EXCESS OF THE 254 POUNDS LIMITATION, BY APPROXIMATELY 2.6 POUNDS ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
