## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE PILOT WAS RETURNING TO CONCORD AIRPORT FOLLOWING A ONE HOUR, LOCAL PART 91 FLIGHT. HE WAS SOUTHBOUND AT 3000 FEET ALTITUDE, JUST EAST OF RUNWAY 17/35 WHEN THE COCKPIT CANOPY OPENED. THE CANOPY FRAME REMAINED ATTACHED AT THE HINGE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT. HALF OF THE PLEXIGLAS FAILED AND DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT APPLIED FULL LEFT RUDDER TO COUNTERACT THE DRAG FROM THE OPEN CANOPY. AT FULL POWER THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT MAINTAIN ALTITUDE. HE CONTINUED TO DESCEND AND TOUCHED DOWN IN A SOUTHWESTERLY DIRECTION AT THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY OVER-RUN AT THE SOUTH END OF RUNWAY 35. HE BECAME AIRBORNE OVER A SMALL RAVINE. THE RIGHT GEAR BROKE OFF AS HE TOUCHED DOWN THE SECOND TIME AND THE AIRCRAFT SLID TO A STOP ON THE HILLSIDE. DAMAGE TO MAIN LANDING GEAR, PROP, ENGINE COWL, EXHAUST, BELLY SKIN, DENTS AND SCRATCHES ON RIGHT WING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
