## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NARRATIVE: THE CARGO SMOKE INDICATION WAS NOTED DURING CRUISE FLIGHT SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF. AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE, EXTINGUISHER WAS FIRED, AND THE CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY. THE SMOKE INDICATION WENT OFF AND REMAINED OFF FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE FLIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO COLUMBUS, GA. THE PASSENGERS WERE DEPLANED WITHOUT ANY FURTHER INCIDENT. CFR INSPECTED THE CARGO COMPARTMENT AND DID NOT FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF A FIRE OR SMOKE. MAINTENANCE FOUND A DISCONNECTED WIRE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
