## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

VEERED OFF RUNWAY LANDING. GROUND LOOPED. DAMAGED RIGHT WING. BENT REAR SPAR. FAILED LAND INTO WIND OR GO AROUND. (-23) PILOT STATED THAT DURING LANDING ROLL, THE A/C DRIFTED OFF THE LH SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. HE REPORTED TO LANDING THE A/C IN A MANNER TO PLACE THE CG TOWARD THE AFT LIMITS AND WHEN LANDING ON RUNWAY 26L AT EL PASO, WITH REPORTED WINDS FROM 200 DEGREES AT 7 KNOTS, HE COULD NOT KEEP THE PLANE STRAIGHT. AS THE A/C DEPARTED THE HARD SURFACE HE DISCONTINUED BRAKING TO AVOID NOSING OVER AND THE A/C GROUND LOOPED, RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING (INCLUDING BENDING OF THE AFT SPAR).

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW96LA276](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW96LA276), Jun 24, 1996: Piper PA-22-150 (N6048D), El Paso, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: loss of directional control due to the failure of the tailwheel lock. A factor was the crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
