(.4)THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED DURING A TEST FLIGHT AFTER THE PILOT MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE OPERATED NORMALLY DURING THE FLIGHT. THE FUEL PUMP ON THE ENGINE WAS THE ORIGINAL FUEL PUMP AND HAD NOT BEEN CERTIFIED FOR FLIGHT. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD A VACUUM LEAK. HE REPORTED THAT THE VALVE WOULD NOT SEAT AND DID NOT CREATE THE NECESSARY SUCTION. (-23) PILOT DEPARTED ON A LOCAL FLIGHT - UPON RETURNING TO THE AIRPORT HE DED A TOUCH AND GO LANDING. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI96LA229](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI96LA229), Jul 4, 1996: Hewitt Cassutt 3M (N290E), Vermillion, SD, substantial damage. Probable cause: the failure of the unapproved fuel pump.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
