## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL LANDING GROUND LOOPED OFF RUNWAY. DOWN THRU GULLEY AND UP EMBANKMENT BEFORE STOPPING. (-23) DURING THE LANDING PHASE, THE PILOT APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW THE AIRPLANE. THE PILOT REPORTED THE AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND PILOT COULD NOT GET THE LEFT BRAKE TO COMPENSATE AND EXPERIENCED NEGATIVE RESPONSE TO EFFORTS TO COORDINATE. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO VEER TO THE RIGHT IN AN ARC TO THE RIGHT, DOWN THROUGH A GULLY DEPRESSION IN THE GRASS AND UP ONTO AN EMBANKMENT NEARBY WHERE IT CAME TO REST WITH A 180 DEGREE CHANGE OF DIRECTION. THE PILOT AND THE THREE PASSENGERS REQUIRED OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE TO EVACUATE THE AIRCRAFT DUE TO A SLIGHTLY JAMMED EXIT DOOR. THE PILOT AND PASSENGERS SUSTAINED NO INJURIES. THERE WAS NO FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI96LA230](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI96LA230), Jul 5, 1996: Piper PA-28-161 (N8352H), Valparaiso, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
