## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-16) ON JULY 5, 1996 AT 0745 MOUNTAIN DAYLIGHT TIME, A RAVEN RALLEY RX7 BALLOON, N4014K, PILOTED BY PATRICIA J. BRAKE, CERT. # 513445998, MADE A HARD LANDING NEAR GUNNISON, COLORADO. THE PILOT AND TWO (2) PASSENGERS WERE NOT INJURED AND THE BALLOON SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THIS BALLOON WAS ONE (1) OF TWO (2) OTHER BALLOONS THAT WERE IN GUNNISON OVER THE JULY 4TH WEEKEND, THAT WERE CAUGHT IN A MICRO BURST (SEE OTHER ACCIDENT REPORT #FTW96LA292). IT WAS DETERMINED BY A REPAIR STATION IN ALBUQUERQUE THAT BALLOON SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, SO SHE CALLED THE NTSB TO REPORT IT ON JULY 12, 1996.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW96LA303](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW96LA303), Jul 5, 1996: Raven Ralley RX7 (N4014K), Gunnison, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate weather evaluation. A factor was the high wind.

## Other reports on N4014K (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19891011054162I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19891011054162I), Oct 11, 1989: Raven RX7 (N4014K), Albuquerque, NM. Balloon gondola was struck by envelope of other ascending balloon from below.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
